Projects

Here's some example results from the projects I’ve been involved with over the years.

“It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves” Sir Edmund Hillary KG, ONZ, KBE (1919-2008)

Leadership program showed managers and leaders how to release at least one day /week!

I have worked with thousands of managers and leaders helping them improve their leadership skills. The company which I led created leadership programs which drew on the latest leadership practices and taught effective management techniques. We provided coaching and mentoring support to enable new and experienced managers and leaders to develop and improve their skills.

The programs were independently evaluated and participants reported that they valued the skills they developed in:

  • Managing difficult staff and performance management

  • Becoming generationally “savvy” thus improving team dynamics

  • Using Visual Performance Measures to drive change and innovation

  • Optimising their effectiveness using time management techniques

  • Learning service improvement techniques to streamline systems and processes.

Lean based service improvement programs helped teams release time to care and improve efficiency!

I have worked with many teams across Australia and New Zealand. Delivered over 12 months, the service improvement programs typically involved a series of workshops and webinars while the teams worked on changes to their processes and systems. Webinars were both teaching and coaching helping teams problem solve and brainstorm together.

Here are some of the results they achieved:

  • Teams reported an increase in their effective time utilisation - one unit reported an increase of 61% from 26% to 73%!

  • Healthcare teams have decreased their Average Length of Stay - one unit had a 50% decrease from 25.4 days to 13.1 days. (Average length of stay refers to the average number of days that patients have spent in hospital. It is generally measured by dividing the total number of days stayed by all inpatients during a year by the number of admissions or discharges and it is a key measure of efficiency.)

  • Units decreased their episodes of seclusion - one unit reported a significant decrease to zero incidents of seclusion for six months and the average seclusion episodic rate decreased from 10.7 episodes per 1,000 bed days to 9.5 episodes per 1,000 bed days. (Seclusion involves a patient being confined at any time of the day or night alone in a room or area from which he or she cannot leave. Reductions in seclusion rates are a key indicator of service quality.)
